Is Your Recovery Keeping Up With Your Active Life?

Is Your Recovery Keeping Up With Your Active Life?

There’s something about the first run of beautiful weather that changes things.

Suddenly you're walking more.

The garden needs doing.

The kids want to be outside.

You're swimming again, training more, staying out later, tackling jobs that have been sitting there all winter.

And honestly?

It feels good.

After months of colder weather, there’s something pretty great about wanting to get outside and use your body again.

But there’s something we’re not always quite as enthusiastic about.

The recovery bit.

We’re pretty good at the doing

Most of us don't need much encouragement to make the most of a beautiful day.

You go for the longer walk.

Spend three hours in the garden when you were only going out there to pull one weed.

Get back into training.

Take the kids somewhere.

Clean the house.

Wash the car.

And somehow squeeze another five things into the day because there are more daylight hours and apparently that means we must use every single one of them. 😂

Then you finally stop and realise...

Oh. My body has actually done quite a lot today.

That’s the bit I think we sometimes miss.

An active life asks something from our bodies.

And if we love living that way, we need to get just as good at supporting the recovery as we are at doing the things.

So where does magnesium come into it?

Magnesium is one of those minerals your body is quietly using all the time.

It plays a role in normal muscle and nerve function, energy production and hundreds of other processes happening behind the scenes.

And when we're active, magnesium is part of that picture too.

Exercise changes the way magnesium moves around the body, and we also lose small amounts through sweat.

That doesn't mean going for a walk suddenly makes you magnesium deficient.

It just means that when we're asking more from our bodies, it's worth paying attention to what we're putting back in.

That's why we recommend using Magnesium Oil daily. Before you start the day, in the middle if you feel you need it and before bed.

Recovery doesn't have to become another job

This is where I think wellness can get unnecessarily complicated.

You do not need a 12-step recovery routine.

You don't need to buy all the things.

And you certainly don't need another list of things you're supposed to be doing.

Sometimes good recovery looks remarkably ordinary.

Eat well ,food as medicine.

Drink your water.

Get good quality sleep.

Have a rest day.

Stretch if it feels good.

Stop when your body is telling you it's had enough.

And then there's the bath

This is obviously where we have a bit of a soft spot.

Because after a day where your body has been doing, there is something lovely about getting into a warm bath and letting it know:

We're done now.

Add your Magnesium Spa Soak.

Get in.

And stay there long enough that you're not mentally halfway through the next job.

That's really what we love about the ritual.

We're not going to tell you a magnesium bath is a magic fix for everything you've asked from your body that day.

But it does create a very clear line between doing and recovering.

And sometimes we need that line.

The part we want you to remember

We talk a lot at Hide + Soak about living an active, full life.

Because we're not interested in telling people to make their lives smaller in the name of wellness.

Go do the things.

Walk further.

Swim.

Train.

Garden.

Play with your kids.

Make the most of the beautiful weather.

Build a life you actually want to be in.

Just remember that the body carrying you through all of it needs something from you too.

You don't have to wait until you're completely exhausted or everything hurts before you give something back.

Let recovery be part of the active life — not just what you do when the active life catches up with you.
